'At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier', by D.M. Rice

To be is to be one
of the many soldiers
of fortune. We are all
all of us we are clamping
ours heels into the tethered
path of many fated plumes until
we are laid to sleep we are all soldiers
of the fickle and the undying to be is to be
one of the many we are all all of us we are clamping
our plumed fates before the many guards who wait to take us
                                                                          from ourselves.

D.M. Rice is the co-editor-in-chief of Sybil Journal. Their first print book, Moby Pussy, is available on the site.
