'I Cannot Lie' and Other Poems, by Cianan Miles Mitchell
I Cannot Lie
Making friends isn’t easy.
Neither is:
Talking to yourself
Reading the room
Getting over there
Hitting the bottom
Standing back up
Falling over again
Braving the adversity
Functioning at all
Having a life
The right thing
Loads of debt
Eating the poor
Losing it all
This is the reason.
A Trick
I know a trick,
It'll surprise you.
I'm gone, but I will
Be back in 5 minutes.
Later than expected,
But you wanted a
Trick and looking
Over here is a white
Rabbit with a leaf
Of cabbage and now
The hat's disappeared
With the assistant who
Wanted a raise
D plain box with
A sword and a mirror
And a screwdriver
To fix the coffee machine
In the lobby with another
Juggler who unexpectedly
Walked into the wrong show.
Stained
I stained my teeth
Eating meat
It stretched out way
Too long
In the long run
But I
Feel too scared to
Just stop
Appreciate the journey
Be still
Eat a healthy vegetable
And rot.
